# Ash tree

An ash tree is a native North American tree that emerald ash borer attacks, and the beetle left few ash trees standing in southwest Ohio after it reached Hamilton County in 2007.

Emerald ash borer lays eggs on all native ash species, according to Ohio State University's BYGL (Buckeye Yard and Garden Line) newsletter. Blue ash is considered more tolerant of the beetle's feeding. Ohio State also reports that the beetle was confirmed in Hamilton County in 2007, and that untreated ash trees declined year after year until few trees were left to feed the beetle.
