# Historic overlay zone

A historic overlay zone is a mapped area with added rules. In Covington, Kentucky, trees on private property can fall under city rules inside such a zone.

The City of Covington says trees on private property generally do not fall under City regulation unless they are in a historic overlay zone or on a hillside where removal could affect slope stability or storm drainage. In those cases the trees may fall within the Neighborhood Development Code related to hillsides or tree preservation.

So a stump or tree in a Covington historic overlay zone may have extra rules. This page does not say what those rules are. Confirm with the city before work.
