Carbide teeth

Carbide teeth are hard metal cutting tips fitted to the cutter wheel of a stump grinder, built to bite into wood and last through many stumps.

Carbide teeth are the cutting tips on a cutter wheel. Tungsten carbide is a very hard metal, so the tips hold an edge longer than plain steel. They bolt or clamp into holders on the wheel.

Teeth wear down with use. Rocks, dirt and sand wear them faster than clean wood. Woodland Mills says its carbide teeth are designed so that they can be resharpened, and replacement teeth are available if needed. Some wheels also let crews rotate a tooth to a fresh cutting edge.

Sharp teeth cut cleaner chips and finish a stump grinding job faster. Dull teeth tear at the wood and slow the machine, which is why crews swap them often.
