Excavation (Ohio law)
Ohio Revised Code 3781.25(I) defines excavation as using hand tools, powered equipment or explosives to move earth, rock or other materials in order to penetrate, bore or drill into the earth.
OHIO811 prints the definition from ORC 3781.25(I) in its FAQ: "'Excavation' means the use of hand tools, powered equipment, or explosives to move earth, rock, or other materials in order to penetrate, bore, or drill into the earth, or to demolish any structure, whether or not it is intended that the demolition will disturb the earth" and the quote continues.
OHIO811 tells readers to review ORC 3781.25(I) for related exemptions to this definition. It also says the person making the excavation is responsible for notifying OHIO811. This page quotes the law and does not decide whether a given job fits it. See OHIO811 and locate ticket. The guide on whether you need to call 811 for stump grinding covers the question.
