Cost
Minimum charge
A minimum charge is the lowest price a company will take for a job, set so that travel and setup are covered even when the stump is small.
A minimum charge puts a floor under the price. If the per-inch price for a small stump comes to less than the minimum, the minimum applies instead.
The reason is simple. Bandit explains that even a small 6-inch stump requires the same travel and setup time as a large one, so the minimum fee ensures that small jobs are not priced below the cost of doing business. The minimum often covers the first stump on a visit, and extra stumps may cost less each.
Ask whether a quote includes the minimum and what it covers. Ask about cleanup and topsoil too, since those can be separate. See stump grinding minimum charge.
