Hillside tree rules

Hillside tree rules are local rules that can cover tree removal on slopes. Covington, Kentucky, may regulate private trees on hillsides where removal could affect slope stability or drainage.

The City of Covington says trees on private property generally do not fall under City regulation unless they are in a historic overlay zone or on a hillside where their removal could affect slope stability or storm drainage. In those cases they may fall within the Neighborhood Development Code related to hillsides or tree preservation.

A slope can raise questions that flat ground does not. This page does not say which Covington hillsides are covered or what a rule requires. Confirm with the city before removing a tree or stump on a slope. See historic overlay zone and urban forestry. The guide on pine, oak and maple stump grinding covers the tree side.
