Plants
Invasive plant
An invasive plant is a non-native plant that spreads and harms native plants. Ohio's director of agriculture names specific invasive plants by rule to protect native plant species.
Ohio Administrative Code rule 901:5-30-01 says the director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture declares the plants listed in the rule as invasive plants. The stated aim is to protect native plant species and thwart the growth of invasive ones. The list gives each plant's botanical name and then its common name.
Amur honeysuckle is item 28 on the list. Ohio State University calls bush honeysuckles non-native plants that thrive in full sunlight but tolerate moderate shade, which makes them aggressive invaders. Emerald ash borer is an invasive insect rather than a plant, but it is described in similar terms. Read the guide on honeysuckle stumps and roots for stump-specific notes.
