ISA Certified Arborist
An ISA Certified Arborist is a tree care professional who holds a voluntary, nongovernmental certification from the International Society of Arboriculture and must keep learning to maintain it.
The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) says its arborist certification is a nongovernmental, voluntary process. Individuals use it to document their base of knowledge. Certification gives a measurable assessment of the knowledge needed for proper tree care.
ISA says a certified arborist should have a generally accepted level of knowledge in areas such as tree biology, diagnosis, maintenance practices and safety. They must also continue their education to maintain their certification. The certification is voluntary, so it is not a government license. For the general role, see arborist. A tree service may or may not employ certified staff, so ask. The guide on how to choose a stump grinding company lists questions to ask.
