Right-of-way

A right-of-way is public land beside a street that cities manage, and in Cincinnati the city maintains street trees and any trees growing in a right-of-way.

Cincinnati Parks Urban Forestry says its team is responsible for the maintenance of all City street trees, or any trees in a right-of-way. The city's 311 service lists stump removal in the ROW (right of way) as a request type for public trees.

Cincinnati's municipal code requires a public tree work permit for any work on or near a public tree or for planting in the right-of-way. The tree lawn and street trees sit in this public land. Boundaries differ by street, so ask the city office before work. The guide on who owns the stump on the tree lawn covers the check.
