Arboriculture
Tree service
A tree service is a company that prunes, removes and cares for trees. TreesAreGood.org says tree work should be done only by those trained and equipped to work safely.
The International Society of Arboriculture says pruning or removing trees, especially large ones, can be dangerous work. Its TreesAreGood.org site says tree work should be done only by those trained and equipped to work safely in trees. It lists pruning and storm-damage work among the services an arborist can provide.
A tree removal job usually leaves a stump, and many tree services treat the stump as a separate item. When you compare quotes, check whether the stump is included. The post on what a stump versus tree removal quote should list shows what to look for. Many tree services employ an arborist.
